Wearing helments when riding on a motorcycle became mandatory in December 2007 in Vietnam. However, many still take the law lightly as VND50.000 (USD2.50) would normally 'settle' the policemen. It is also common to see 3 or 4 people on one motorbike. |

The sacred giant turtle at the famous Hoan Kiem Lake has been returned after being treated for skin disease. That's good news so stop arguing about its sex! |

A man urinates on the sidewalk in downtown Ho Chi Minh city |
This is rather common in Vietnam. I see it almost everytime I go out on the streets (mostly man). I have seen only once where a woman in her old age took off her underpants and started doing her business on the street squating down. It was like a bad dream but I see it with my eyes.
The awareness of cleaniness and embarassment just isn't in some people's concious. You can see that the man in the above picture is doing on a busy street with cars and buses driving pass. He isn't afraid that someone is going to give him a fine or look strangely at him. It's his everyday habit! And sadly, he is not the only one. I bet some of the traffic police do that too!
